A new entity has been created to advise the President and Executive Director of the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de Montréal on matters related to specialized medical services. Formed in June 2006, the Regional Panel of Heads of Departments of Specialized Medicine has formed its first-ever executive committee, charged with directing the work of the Panel and leading its meetings.
The Panel has the mission of helping the Agence decide how best to organize services in the Montréal territory for the better health and well-being of the population. Responsible for identifying solutions that take into account the reality of physicians on the ground, the Panel will also act as a forum for the discussion of the organizational needs of the region.

THE PANEL’S RESPONSIBILITIES: |
- Designing and ensuring the implementation of a regional staffing plan for medical specialists (PREM) and a regional organizational plan for the provision of specialized medical care (PROS)
- Designing and ensuring the implementation of a system of access to specialized medical care
- Evaluating goal performance with respect to the PROS and the PREM
- Making recommendations about the distribution of specialized medical equipment
- Providing feedback on projects relating to the use of drugs
- Giving its opinion on the service corridors proposed by the integrated university service networks (RUIS)
