Occupational Safety Teams (SAT)

Some jobs can involve health risks. The Occupational Health and Safety Act calls for these risks to be eliminated at the source.

To do so, Occupational Safety Teams (SAT) have been set up in Montréal's health and social service centres (CSSS). The SATs support the efforts of employers and workers to prevent work-related illnesses from appearing or getting worse. Their mandate also includes the development and implementation of programmes tailored to each organization.

The range of SAT services includes risk identification and evaluation, monitoring of workers health, workplace education and training on specific hazards, searching for solutions and consulting on the organization of emergency aid and first aid.

The SAT teams are also responsible for the enforcement of the programme Pour une maternité sans danger (for a risk-free maternity) which provides for the preventive withdrawal or reassignment of female workers who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
