Services for immigrants and asylum seekers
Québec Health Insurance Plan
In Québec, you have to have a health insurance card to receive services free of charge in a healthcare facility. All Québec residents are eligible for a health insurance card and can apply to receive one.
Newcomers can avoid delaying their eligibility for health insurance by going to or calling an office of the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) to get a health insurance card application form. All family members have to have their own cards, which they should also keep on their persons and never lend to anyone else.
For more information on the health insurance plan and how to get a health insurance card, visit the RAMQ.
